8th Grade:

At Carl Sandburg, we integrate the English Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum. Social Studies introduces students to the study of American History from 1865 to the present day. In English Language Arts, we cover reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing skills. This list below describes skills and topics that might be covered during the course of the year.

Eighth Grade Social Studies

  1. Develop an understanding of how major events in US History (from Reconstruction to the present) have affected the present world
  2. Discuss how the contributions of past US historical figures and policies have contributed to the development of our modern world.
  3. Examine current events and analyze the connections with themes from the past in US history
  4. Develop a variety of learning and organizational strategies
  5. Develop writing and research skills through an inquiry-based and thematic approach to studying history
  6. Study US geography and make connections to its impact on US history and government policies

Eighth Grade Language Arts

  1. Stem word vocabulary
  2. Grammar
  3. Interpreting primary source documents
  4. Connecting US History with the world today through literature
  5. Using technology to communicate with each other, the school, community, and beyond
  6. Creating prose of all kinds (reflections, memoirs, argumentative essay, fictional stories, poetry, reading responses, book talks and more)
  7. Independently reading every day and reflecting on it using multiple reading strategies
  8. Improving research skills
  9. Analyzing various literature, poetry, and non-fiction readings
About Me:
I am an Language Arts and Social Studies teacher for dual language and monolingual 8th grade.
I love reading, writing, running, participating in spontaneous dance parties, and riding my Vespa scooter around Mundelein. I live in Mundelein with my sports-loving husband, two sons, and our dog Perdi.

Soy una maestra de arte de lenguaje y estudios sociales para el programa dual y monolingue en 8o grado. 
Me encanta leer, escribir, correr, participar en fiestas de baile espontáneas, y andar en mi moto Vespa por Mundelein. Vivo en Mundelein con mi esposo quien encanta deportes, mis dos hijos, y nuestro perro Perdi.
